The Office – 2001 ……how time flies.
20 years ago, the critically acclaimed series came onto our tv screens and overnight it became a sensation. We watched the protagonist and fictional character David Brent navigate his way through a series of gaffs and cringe worthy behaviour to everybody he managed – up and down.
What made the series so popular was that we could identify and warm to the many characters – people not dissimilar to whom at some point we would have worked with?
I appreciate that many of you would not have seen it first time round – no spoilers but having a certain sense of humour will allow you to enjoy this comedy ….it is def worth a first viewing – check out Netflix.
So how relevant is the series today …are there parallels to be drawn from working in the noughties workplace with the modernity of recent years?
It is somewhat surreal that the timing of the rerun has coincided with a period where many of us can no longer be in an office. Would you swap the endless zoom meetings to be back in the office?
It is safe to assume that your place of work is not like the one that David and co inhabited.
